FAQ: Images in Wrong Order when Exported with ExportICS

Question

Why are my the images when exported with ExportICS, opened in the the QUIPS™ application software in the wrong order e.g. the blue channel is depicted in red and the red channel in blue.

Answer

ExportICS generates a .ics and .ids file based on the currently open image. The order in which the data planes are exported is determined by the order in which the planes occur in the Merge image processor (usually the top item in the image stack, within the filmstrip). This order is in turn determined by the order in which the images were originally captured, which in turn is determined by the way the "Filter Settings" palette has been filled in. Changing the capture order, will rectify the problem for subsequently captured images.

Alternatively for existing images (captured in the wrong order or at least not the order that the QUIPS™ application is expecting), you can add a new "Merge" image processor to the top the stack and by specifying the correct order for the source images of the "Merge" image processor, subsequent calls to ExoprtICS on this new "Merge" image will export them in the desired order.

There is also the "ICS Export" script which can be found in the Really Useful Script section of our Goodies web page. This can export multiple images in one go and allows the export of the raw or processed data. Being a script, means that you can take a look at the script and perhaps even modify it to meet any specific needs, such as reversing the export order!
